Question:
How do I create a new post?
Answer:

This guide will show you how to publish a post using the desktop or mobile web version of Substack. If you have the Substack iOS app, please follow these steps to post from the app.

Steps to Publish a Post

  1. Create a New Post: Navigate to your Home or Posts tab and click on New post.

  3. Publishing Options: When ready, click Publish. You can then choose:

    • The intended audience (everyone, paid subscribers, free subscribers, or founding members)
    • Comment permissions for your post
    • To add a free preview for paid posts
    • Whether to send the post via email and Substack app inbox
    • A future date and time to publish your post

Note: If you're a writer with a publication, publishing a post via the app is not currently possible.

Saving Drafts

  • Posts are automatically saved as drafts. Click on Version History to view drafts of your post.
  • In your Dashboard, all unpublished posts are accessible in the Drafts section on the right panel.

Tip: Want to share a draft? In the Substack editor, click on Settings at the bottom of the draft. On the post Settings page, you'll find a secret draft link to copy and share.

Publishing Only to Your Publication

By default, your posts are published on the web and sent via email and the Substack app. To publish only to your publication, uncheck the box next to "Send via email and Substack app inbox" after clicking Publish.
